It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 1:51 AM on December 9, 2023, Lakewood Police received a call about a driver sleeping in the Taco Bell drive-thru at 15500 Detroit Avenue. When officers arrived, the car was no longer there. They looked for a vehicle that matched the description but found nothing at first. A little later, around 2:16 AM, police went back to the same Taco Bell for another report. This time, a female driver was passed out behind the wheel. Officer Daniel Cooper spotted a white 2021 Chevy Traverse in the parking lot that matched what witnesses had described. Officer Cooper approached the driver and found her slumped over the steering wheel. The woman, later named Meagen, appeared disoriented. Sensing the smell of alcohol, he asked her if she had been drinking. Meagen confessed that she had consumed alcohol before driving. Soon after, two more officers arrived to help, and Meagen was given the chance to perform field sobriety tests. The first sobriety test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. Officer Cooper noticed that Meagen’s eyes did not move smoothly, showed clear twitching at the farthest point, and began to twitch before reaching a 45-degree angle. Next was the Walk and Turn test, where Meagen did not place her heel to toe correctly and turned the wrong way. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Here, Meagen struggled to balance and put her foot down. Given the witness statement about the smell of alcohol, her signs of impairment, and her failure on the tests, Meagen was arrested for operating a vehicle while impaired. After Meagen was arrested, Officer Johnson searched her and had her car towed. Officer Cooper then took her to jail for processing. Before entering, he managed to call her aunt, who agreed to pick her up after her release. While they waited, Meagen shared with Officer Cooper that both of her sisters had also faced DUIs. Meagen agreed to provide breath samples for testing after the officer read the BMV 2255 form to her. Officer Alan Krems operated the Intoxilyzer machine. The results showed her blood alcohol concentration was 0.214%. 1:19 This is legit my partner trying to get me to turn off my alarm 27:38 I love how she's just figured out that she's going to jail 8:40 you’re really good at your job … If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video .
