On April 12, 2025, Peoria Police Officer Carpenter stopped a vehicle that was traveling with no headlights at night. The vehicle was being driven by a 19-year-old woman, who first claimed to be coming from a friend's house, but then stated she was coming from work. Because her route of travel made no sense to Officer Carpenter, he asked the woman to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety testing. She was asked to submit to a portable breath test (PBT), but declined. She was placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence and was transported to the Peoria Police Station. A search of her vehicle revealed an open bottle of alcohol. At the police station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.071% BAC, which is still over the legal limit for someone under the age of 21. She was transported to the Peoria County Jail, where she was released the following morning. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
