A routine traffic stop for minor infractions quickly uncovers a deeper, more troubling situation involving a young driver's welfare. Late at night, an officer initiated a traffic stop after observing a vehicle make several turns without signaling and nearly striking a curb. Upon contact, the officer detected signs of impairment from the 19-year-old driver, who was wearing a white ribbed crop top and checkered shorts. The driver, whose legs showed bruising and who had an orange plush character hanging from her rearview mirror, refused field sobriety exercises, leading to her arrest for driving under the influence. During processing at the police department, where the center console had displayed text like "RILEY", the officer learned from the driver's boyfriend that she had recently engaged in self-harm, though the wounds were no longer actively bleeding.
