Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On May 21, 2023, at approximately 7:03 PM, Sergeant Matthew Gajewski from the Union Beach Police Department was on patrol when he came across a 2020 Toyota SUV with a flat tire on Shore Road near Morningside Avenue. He reported the disabled vehicle to dispatch and approached the driver, 45-year-old Justine Meadow. While speaking with her, he noticed her speech was slurred and smelled alcohol in the car. Justine informed the officer that she was traveling from Atlantic Highlands and had a flat tire after hitting a pothole while going to Middletown. Sergeant Gajewski inquired if she had been drinking, but she claimed she wasn't under the influence. When he requested her license, registration, and insurance, she refused to provide them. Due to his concerns about her potential impairment, he suggested that Justine take part in field sobriety tests. Sergeant Gajewski began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, but could not finish because Justine did not follow the instructions. The next test was the Walk and Turn. Justine struggled to walk heel-to-toe in a straight line and did not count her steps as directed. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, where Justine started to stumble and leaned against her vehicle for balance. Sergeant Gajewski stopped the test after 21 seconds. Sergeant Gajewski arrested Justine for driving under the influence due to her slurred speech, the smell of alcohol on her, and her failure to complete the field sobriety tests properly. Around this time, Patrolman Matthew Olivo arrived to help. After placing Justine in the patrol car, Sergeant Gajewski was able to collect her license, registration, and insurance. Justine's vehicle was towed and held for 12 hours as required by John’s Law. Sergeant Gajewski then took Justine to the Union Beach Police Department for processing. At police headquarters, Justine was informed about the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators, which required her to provide breath samples. After several tries, the Alcotest showed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.332%, exceeding the legal limit by more than four times. Once she was processed, Justine was released to a responsible person, who signed the Potential Liability Warning form for her before her court date.
