0:00 - Description of events 0:22 - Officer 1 bodycam 1:34 - Officer 2 bodycam 2:24 - After the Incident On November 22, 2024, Evansville police responded to a 911 call reporting an ongoing domestic violence incident. The dispatcher learned that a man, identified as 47-year-old Tyler Parrot, was intoxicated and might be attempting to retrieve a gun. It was also revealed that Parrott had a history of abusive behavior and had just thrown the family cat at a woman during the altercation. “At one point, a child was on the phone describing what was happening inside the home, and officers didn’t get to hear that,” said Officer Taylor Merriss. “They had to react based on what they saw and observed. We can’t speak highly enough of these officers and the actions they took yesterday.” Officers arrived at the scene within four minutes. Upon arrival, they ordered Parrott to drop the gun. However, he raised the weapon and aimed it at the officers. In response, one officer fired a single shot, striking Parrott in the chest. “When there are two children in the home, a terrified mother calling for help, and a man essentially hovering over them, we can’t retreat,” explained Merriss. “We have to enter the home to ensure everyone’s safety, even if it results in the situation we faced last night.” Parrott is currently in intensive care. He faces charges including domestic battery in the presence of a child, neglect of a dependent, and animal cruelty. Evansville Police Department officials commended the officers for their handling of an extremely sensitive and dangerous situation. “When there’s two children in the home, a mother that’s scared, they called us for help and he’s basically hovering over them, and we can’t retreat,” says Merriss. “We have to go in that home or unfortunately result in the situation that resulted in last night. We have to make sure that people are safe.” #EvansvillePolice #DomesticViolence #HeroicOfficers #FamilySafety #PoliceAction #DomesticAbuseResponse #LawEnforcement #IntensiveCare #AnimalCruelty #ChildNeglect #PublicSafety #DomesticViolenceAwareness #911Call #PoliceBravery #EmergencyResponse #EvansvilleNews Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
