On the evening of February 20, 2024, Flagler County deputies were sent to a reported hit-and-run crash on Town Center Boulevard in Palm Coast, Florida. A witness told them a car had made a U-turn, gone over a curb and struck a power pole. Deputies found the car a short time later in a nearby shopping plaza parking lot. The driver was a 34-year-old woman. Her three children were in the car with her. She told deputies the car had malfunctioned and that she had only moved it to get out of the road. One deputy handled the crash. A second deputy then opened a DUI investigation. This is the body camera footage from both of them, in the order it happened, ending in the breath-test room at the county jail. No injuries were reported to deputies at the scene. A relative later told a deputy that one of the children was complaining of a sore arm, and the deputy offered to call an ambulance. WHAT SHE WAS CHARGED WITH Angelica Matos was arrested and booked into the Flagler County jail on charges of DUI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, resisting an officer without violence, and three counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. She declined the breath test, so no breath alcohol result exists. According to the deputies' report, a bottle was recovered from the debris at the crash site. She posted bond and was released the next day. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT Court records show the case continued through the summer of 2024 as a misdemeanor DUI and resisting case. As of September 2026 we have not been able to confirm a plea, a sentence, or what became of the child neglect counts. A pretrial report filed at the time listed no prior convictions. We will update this description when the court record is confirmed. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. A charge is an accusation, not a conviction.
