On June 20, 2025, the Rio Rancho Police Department set up a DUI Checkpoint. The 31-year-old driver of a Jeep came through the Checkpoint and was stopped by Officer Casana. Officer Casana asked the woman if she had consumed any alcohol, but she avoided eye contact and answered hesitantly. The police report also indicates that Officer Casana could smell alcohol coming from inside of the vehicle. The woman had 2 kids (ages 5 and 7) in the vehicle with her. She was instructed to step out of the vehicle and she was turned over to Sgt. Saina, who conducted a DUI investigation. After performing poorly on standardized field sobriety tests, the woman was placed under arrest. She was transported to the Rio Rancho police station, where she provided 2 breath samples. The results were 0.21% and 0.22% BAC. Open containers of alcohol were later discovered in her vehicle. The 2 children were turned over to a relative. Her charges are listed at the end of the video. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
