Woman Slips Her Handcuffs, Kicks Officer, Denies Any Fight, Gets a Reality Check She Earned A caller reports a physical fight in a parking lot in Wausau, Wisconsin. By the time officers pull up, both people in the car say the same thing: nothing happened. What starts as a routine domestic call turns into a pat-down, a calm “it was all my fault,” and a boyfriend shouting from beside a squad car. Officers can’t establish the kind of relationship that triggers a mandatory arrest, so nobody is going to jail for what the caller reported. Then a car door swings open into the vehicle parked next to them. She tells officers she did nothing wrong, again and again. She slips out of her handcuffs. She fights every attempt to get her into the squad car. Her boyfriend, handcuffed on the other side of the lot, keeps asking officers if they understand “how women are.” When jail staff finally arrive with a restraint chair, she asks the same question she’s been asking all night: what did I do wrong? Wisconsin law doesn’t need an injury. Pain is enough.
