This video details a chaotic domestic violence response by the Bloomington Police Department. Dispatch received several calls about a shirtless male physically fighting a female outside an apartment complex. Upon arrival, officers learned the male had smashed a television and bitten the female on her arm. Bystander video corroborated the assault, showing the suspect grabbing the victim by her hair and biting her. When officers attempted to speak with the suspect, he became aggressive, temporarily armed himself with a knife, and shouted profanities. After putting the weapon away, he was detained but violently resisted arrest. During the struggle, the suspect pulled away from an escorting officer, causing both individuals to fall onto the concrete and resulting in injuries to the officer's elbow. The suspect continued to resist by slipping his handcuffs under his legs and fighting officers during transport. At the hospital and the county jail, the suspect intentionally swallowed a plastic item and a metal clip from his leg shackles, forcing officers to transport him back and forth between the medical center and the jail. He was ultimately booked into custody on several serious charges. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
