The car sat on Western Avenue's east side in a public parking space. The car lacked overnight parking permission. Styx left his patrol car and checked the Mazda. He saw vomit near the car. A woman slept behind the wheel. More vomit covered her. The engine was on. This showed she controlled the vehicle. Styx knocked on the window. He kept knocking for minutes. The woman did not wake up right away. Officer Styx requested backup. Soon, Officer Ashley Molinari arrived. She spotted an open Smirnoff vodka bottle in the car. Another officer showed up. At first, they thought about breaking the window. Instead, they used a lockout kit to open the door. They woke the woman inside. She was identified as 21-year-old Akshita. Akshita seemed confused, but she refused medical help. At first, she said she drank at The Lantern. Later, she confessed to drinking at Authentico Mexican Restaurant & Bar. Officer Styx smelled alcohol on her breath. He asked her to get out of the car. Then, he requested she do some sobriety tests. Officer Styx started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He watched Akshita's eyes for smooth movement. He looked for jerking at maximum deviation and before 45 degrees. Next, Akshita tried the Walk and Turn test. She did not walk heel-to-toe. Her turn was not correct. Then came the One Leg Stand test. Akshita did not raise her foot right. She put her foot down too soon. Lastly, Akshita had to say the alphabet from "D" to "M." She did not do it well. After field sobriety tests, Officer Styx gave Akshita a breath test. It showed a BAC of 0.22%. This was almost three times the legal limit. Akshita admitted to drinking alcohol. She failed the sobriety tests. She was in control of the car. Officer Styx arrested her for driving under the influence. Officer Molinari searched Akshita after she was cuffed. Then, they put her in the patrol car. Officer Styx drove Akshita to the Lake Forest Police Department. There, she would face more steps in the legal process. Akshita chose to give breath samples for testing at the station. The tests showed her blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.176%. This was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After the breathalyzer test, Akshita had to fill out forms. Next, she was photographed and fingerprinted. Finally, she was released. Her court date is set for May 24, 2024. The charges against her include driving under the influence of alcohol. She also faces charges for having a BAC of .08 or higher. Plus, she was charged with illegally transporting alcohol. The state cited these violations: 625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2), 625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(1), and 625 ILCS 5/11-502(a). 1:57 FLASH WARNING (for seizures) 18:09 bad attempt to cover up the license plate. 26:32 Recite the alphabet from D to M 30:30 And there we have the problem answered!
