Around 9:02 PM on June 30, 2026, Sergeant Connor McGrath with the Highlands Police Department observed a black 2018 Volvo XC60 failing to maintain its lane on Route 36 northbound. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and the driver pulled over in the vicinity of Navesink Avenue and Owens Avenue. He exited his patrol car and made contact with the driver, who was eventually identified as Christopher Dominguez. As she was speaking with Christopher, he observed indicators of impairment. Christopher claimed that he was heading home after leaving the boat club. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Christopher was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises after Patrolman James Trivett arrived on scene to assist. His poor performance on the field sobriety exercises confirmed the officers’ suspicion of impairment. Based on his erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, his admission to consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and his inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Christopher was placed under arrest for DWI. Sergeant McGrath transported Christopher to the Highlands Police Department for further processing. A search of his vehicle incident to arrest revealed the presence of multiple open containers. His vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John’s Law. At the station, the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to him, and he agreed to submit breath samples. Christopher’s Alcotest results indicated a BAC level of 0.186%, which was more than double legal limit of 0.08%. While he was being processed, he repeatedly mentioned how his father was once a cop in New York and that he was friends with Highlands Police Chief Robert Burton. After they finished processing Christopher, he called his wife Nicole Dominguez to come to the station to take responsibility for him. However, it was determined that Nicole had also driven under the influence to the station, so she was also placed under arrest for DWI after performing poorly on multiple field sobriety exercises. Nicole refused to submit breath samples, so she was charged with a refusal. Nicole is currently a teacher at John Adams Middle School in Edison, New Jersey. Christopher was issued the following citations: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -Reckless driving (39:4-96) -Traffic on marked lanes (39:4-88) -Driving an unregistered motor vehicle (39:3-4) -Failure to possess driver insurance card (39:3-29C) -Open container (39:4-51A.B) Nicole was issued the following citations: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -Refusal to submit to chemical test (39:4-50.4A) -Reckless driving (39:4-96) Both Christopher and Nicole were eventually released to another sober adult pending their court appearances. As of August 19, 2026, both Christopher’s case and Nicole’s case remain pending before the Highlands Borough Municipal Court. ---------------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). (P.L. 2001, c. 404). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. North Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
