Newly released police video shows the moments leading up to a fatal officer-involved shooting that ended a 20-minute pursuit on **Interstate 88** in DeKalb County, Illinois. On April 27 officers attempted to stop 36-year-old Joseph Moreno** after he was reported missing and believed to be experiencing a mental health crisis. Instead of stopping, Moreno fled, leading officers on a pursuit along I-88. During the chase, dashcam footage shows Moreno repeatedly extending a **handgun** out of the driver's-side window while officers ordered him to drop the weapon. The pursuit came to an end near **Keslinger Road** after spike strips successfully deflated the vehicle's tires. According to the Illinois State Police, an officer observed a shot being fired from Moreno's vehicle. Moreno then exited the car while still armed. Officers repeatedly commanded him to drop the firearm as additional units arrived on scene. The video shows an officer deploying a less-lethal beanbag round, striking Moreno in the leg and causing him to fall to the ground. Authorities said the encounter escalated when Moreno continued to pose a deadly threat, resulting in officers using deadly force. Moreno was pronounced dead at the scene. The Illinois State Police investigated the officer-involved shooting. Viewer discretion is advised.
