It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On November 10, 2024, around 8:31 PM, Officer Dylan Archilla noticed a Cadillac following too closely. This happened near Second Street and Madison Street in Hoboken. The car then drove the wrong way down Monroe Street. Officer Archilla pulled the driver over. He identified the driver as Thomas Starkey, aged 23. While talking with Thomas, the officer smelled alcohol. Thomas first said he came from a friend's house. Then he claimed he was coming from Texas Arizona. He denied drinking any alcohol. He even mentioned his cousin was a State Trooper. Officer Archilla saw clear signs Thomas was impaired. He asked Thomas to do field sobriety tests. Thomas performed poorly on these tests. This confirmed the officer's suspicions. Thomas was arrested for driving under the influence. This was due to the traffic violations. Also, his speech was slurred. The alcohol smell and poor test results contributed. John’s Law led to his car being impounded for 12 hours. Officer Archilla took Thomas to the police station. At the station, Thomas heard the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. He refused to provide breath samples. Thomas was later released to a sober adult. This was after the adult signed a liability form for him. He must appear in court. Thomas received several tickets. These included operating under the influence. He was also cited for refusing breath samples. Another ticket was for disregarding a stop sign. Court records show Thomas was found guilty on February 11, 2025. He was convicted for driving under the influence. He was also found guilty of disregarding a stop sign. As a result, Thomas had to use an ignition interlock device for three months. He also spent 12 hours at an intoxicated driver resource center. He paid a total of $780 in fines.
