On November 25, 2024, Las Cruces Police received a call from Asset Protection Associates from Walmart. They advised the police that a shoplifting suspect had just left the store in a white Toyota Camry. Officer Diaz located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The mother of the suspect and the 28-year-old shoplifting suspect were uncooperative. The suspected shoplifter was detained in handcuffs and was transported back to Walmart. Officer Diaz reviewed store surveillance footage with Asset Protection Associates. They determined that the woman stole $52.45 worth of merchandise. The woman, however, denied the theft and refused to provide her name to officers. Using the license plate from the mother's vehicle, officers believed the suspect's name was "Brenda". However, the police report, without further explanation, lists the suspect's name as "Destiny". It was also discovered that "Destiny" had a warrant for her arrest, which might explain why she was reluctant to provide her real name. Her list of charges is discussed at the end of the video. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
