In the rescue caught on camera, Officer Carter immediately tries to put out the fire and get the driver out of the vehicle. "When Officer Carter determined the driver was not getting out of the car, [he] entered the car and was eventually able to remove the driver," the police department said. The driver was rescued and taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Now Officer Carter is being honored as a hero. "Officer Carter’s actions demonstrate that there’s more to being a police officer than writing tickets and making arrests. Officer Carter put himself in danger to save the life of a citizen. All of our officers take an oath to serve and protect the citizens of Cleburne, and on Sunday morning, Officer Carter did just that," the department said.
