The driver, who was operating without a valid license, immediately fled — initiating a pursuit that stretched across multiple counties. The chase continued northbound on Interstate 5, where the suspect sideswiped a work van and even picked up a loose bumper from the shoulder. As the pursuit entered Pierce County, Lakewood Police officers responded to assist. Approaching the crowded streets of South Tacoma, the deputy executed a precise PIT maneuver, forcing the SUV off the road. The driver initially complied and stepped out of the vehicle, but suddenly lowered their hands into their waistband and climbed back inside, prompting officers to draw their weapons. The suspect was taken into custody moments later. Deputies then discovered the driver was a convicted felon on active Department of Corrections escape status, along with a suspended license and several outstanding warrants spanning the I-5 corridor. The suspect was booked into jail for attempting to elude, hit-and-run, reckless driving, possession of drug paraphernalia, operating without an ignition interlock, and multiple outstanding warrants.
