On January 11, 2026 around 5:47 PM, Patrolman Robert Santoro with the Colts Neck Police Department was dispatched to the area of Route 34 near Naval Weapon Station Earle on a report of a dark vehicle that was on fire. He was then advised by dispatch that the suspect vehicle was heading northbound on Route 34. As he approached the intersection of CR 520 on Route 34 northbound, he observed a black 2025 Land Rover go through the intersection with what initially appeared to be fire coming from underneath it. The vehicle refused to stop as they headed towards Holmdel, so Holmdel Police were advised to be on the lookout. However, the driver did eventually stop in front of the Care One at 188 SR 34 in Holmdel. Patrolman Santoro then exited his patrol car and initiated contact with the driver, who was identified as Dory Almonte. As he was speaking with Dory, Patrolman Santoro observed indicators of impairment. She had trouble locating her documents, and claimed that she was coming from a baby shower at Osteria Cucina Rustica in neighboring Marlboro Township. While she initially denied consuming any alcohol earlier that evening, she later admitted to consuming a glass of wine. Once Patrolman Brian Mason arrived on scene, Dory was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Patrolman Mason started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Patrolman Mason observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and the onset of nystagmus prior to 45 degrees. He also observed vertical nystagmus. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test. During the Walk and Turn test, Dory failed to touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test. During the One Leg Stand test, Dory failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down multiple times before the test was complete. Based on the damages to her vehicle, her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily perform the field sobriety exercises, Dory was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. She was handcuffed and placed inside the patrol car. Her vehicle was impounded by for a mandatory 12-hour hold under John’s Law. Dory was transported by Patrolman Santoro to the Colts Neck Police Department for further processing. The Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators was read to her, and she agreed to submit breath samples. Her Alcotest results indicated a BAC level of 0.158%, which was almost double the legal limit of 0.08%. Once they finished processing her, Dory was eventually released to a sober adult pending her court appearance after he signed the Potential Liability Warning form on Dory’s behalf. Dory was issued the following citations: -Operating under the influence (39:4-50) -Reckless driving (39:4-97) -Careless driving (39:4-97) -Traffic on marked lanes – unsafe lane change (39:4-88B) -Failure to possess registration (39:3-29B) -Failure to possess insurance (39:3-29C) -Failure to stop or yield to an emergency vehicle (39:4-92) As of February 11, 2026, Dory’s case is still pending before the Colts Neck Township Municipal Court. ------------------------------------------ Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information). (P.L. 2024, c.16). Defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty. The New Jersey Supreme Court has previously affirmed in Salzano v. Central Jersey Media Group, 993 A.2d 778 (2010) that “The fair-report privilege reflects the judgment that the need, in a self-governing society, for free-flowing information about matters of public interest outweighs concerns over the uncompensated injury to a person's reputation.” This video advances a compelling public interest. The summary of events was based on records that are “open to public view through open access to public records” as defined in the Salzano case. In Ramos v. Flowers, 429 N.J. Super. 13, the Appellate Division of the Superior Court has also affirmed the right to film law enforcement interactions.
