It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On March 31, 2024, around 8:47 PM, Sergeant John Fitzgerald saw a van. It was a blue 2005 Chevrolet. The van was going the wrong way on Warren Street. Warren Street only allows westbound traffic. The van was traveling eastbound. It then turned onto Chestnut Street. This street is one-way southbound. Sergeant Fitzgerald activated his lights. He stopped the vehicle. The driver was Veronica Cajamarca. Veronica opened her door. Fitzgerald smelled alcohol. Three other people were in the van. Officers found several open alcohol containers. Veronica could not show a valid license. She seemed to struggle finding her papers. Fitzgerald went back to his car. He requested backup. Corporal Kot and Patrolman Centeno arrived. They assisted Fitzgerald. Veronica was asked to exit the van. She was asked to do sobriety tests. Fitzgerald tried the HGN test first. Veronica did not cooperate. The test could not be done. Next was the Walk and Turn test. Veronica did not step heel-to-toe. She turned the wrong way. She also took too many steps. Finally, the One Leg Stand test was given. Veronica failed to lift her foot properly. She put it down before finishing. Fitzgerald arrested Veronica. This was for driving under the influence. The arrest was based on the traffic violation. It was also due to the alcohol smell. Her failure on the sobriety tests mattered too. The van was impounded for 12 hours. This followed John’s Law. Fitzgerald took Veronica to the police station. She was processed there. Veronica blamed her sister for the events. Veronica heard the Standard Statement. She agreed to breath samples. The Alcotest machine was broken. Veronica had to go to Roselle Police. There, she took a breathalyzer test. Her BAC level was 0.11%. This exceeded the legal limit of 0.08%. She returned to Roselle Park. A sober adult took her home. She signed a liability form. Sergeant Fitzgerald gave Veronica tickets. These were for DUI, reckless driving, careless driving, wrong-way driving, and open container. Court records show Veronica's conviction. On January 2, 2025, she was found guilty. The charges were DUI and careless driving. She must use an ignition interlock device. This is for three months. She will spend 12 hours at a DUI center. Veronica also paid $823 in fines. The other tickets were dropped. This was part of a plea deal. 0:52 I hear what sounds like bottles of alcohol. 1:30 Cobwebs are growing on the Police Officer If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
