On June 19, 2024, officers with the Key West Police Department responded to a call in reference to a vehicle crashing into a building. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, later identified as Lonnie Phelps, defensive end with the Cleveland Browns and his girlfriend. Phelps was charged with 1 count of misdemeanor DUI with property damage. He has pled not guilty and has a trial by jury scheduled on August 26, 2024.
