Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At approximately 11:24 PM on November 20, 2022, Officer Matthew Gorham from the Ventnor City Police Department was dispatched to a reported motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Monmouth Avenue and Melbourne Avenue. It was observed that a 2016 Audi Q5 had collided with a 2014 Subaru Forester and a 2009 Honda Accord on Monmouth Avenue. The driver of the Audi Q5, identified as Maria, reported that she had been returning from a wedding in Brigantine. Subsequently, Officer Ryan Szaniszlo arrived at the scene to commence his investigation. Upon inspecting her vehicle, Officer Szaniszlo observed the deployment of the airbag and inquired about Maria's well-being. Maria affirmed that she was unharmed and refuted any consumption of alcohol prior to driving. Lieutenant O’Neill informed Officer Szaniszlo of discovering a champagne glass containing a fresh liquid in plain sight within the vehicle, along with detecting the scent of alcohol. Based on these observations, Officer Szaniszlo requested Maria to undergo field sobriety exercises due to suspicion of impairment. During the assessment conducted by Officer Szaniszlo, Maria exhibited significant impairment in the standardized field sobriety tests. In the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, no indicators of impairment were observed. However, in the Walk and Turn test, Maria failed to maintain heel-to-toe contact and took an incorrect number of steps. Furthermore, in the One Leg Stand test, Maria was unable to stand on one leg without using her arms for balance. Based on the vehicular accident, the presence of alcohol odor in the vehicle, and her inability to satisfactorily perform the field sobriety tests, Officer Szaniszlo apprehended Maria for operating a vehicle under the influence. Due to the car collision, Maria was advised that she would be taken to the hospital for a blood test. Officer Luisi accompanied her during the ambulance transport. Officer Szaniszlo reported back to the station and informed the Assistant Prosecutor about the incident. Judge Fauntleroy authorized a warrant for a blood draw over the phone, and then went to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center with a blood draw kit to carry out the warrant. A nurse conducted the blood draw, and the subsequent results revealed a BAC level of 0.129%. Following the blood draw, Officer Luisi requested a family member to sign the Potential Liability Form on behalf of Maria. She was then released to their custody pending her court appearance. Subsequently, Officer Szaniszlo issued Maria summonses for operating under the influence, reckless driving, and driving or parking an unregistered motor vehicle.
