On August 5, 2023, Newark police were called to McDonald's on a report that a woman had passed out in the drive-thru lane. When Officer Distelhorst arrived on scene, he observed a vehicle still running with a 19-year-old woman passed out behind the wheel. The woman initially denied consuming any alcohol, but a backup officer arrived and stated that he remembered seeing the woman earlier in the night standing outside of a nearby night club. The woman was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. After the tests, she was again asked if she had consumed any alcohol and she admitted that she had. She was arrested for DUI and was transported to a nearby Sheriff's station, where she submitted to an evidential breath test. The result of that test was 0.131% BAC.
