It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On January 25, 2024, around 10:58 PM, Officer Jonathan Finze from the Wauconda Police saw a white 2017 Hyundai swerving as it traveled north on Route 12 near Old Rand Road. The officer noticed the driver drifting onto the shoulder multiple times and finally veering off near Case Road. He signaled the driver to pull over, and she did, stopping on the shoulder. The officer approached the car and spoke to the driver, who was later identified as Savanna Anderson. She explained she was on her way home after a trivia night at a brewery in Lake Zurich. She admitted to having three drinks that evening. Officer Finze suspected she was under the influence and asked her to take a preliminary breath test (PBT). Officer Donna Zorbas arrived to help. Savanna refused to blow into the PBT but agreed to step out of the car to do field sobriety tests. Officer Finze began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. He observed all six signs indicating impairment. Next, he led her through the One Leg Stand, but she struggled to lift her foot properly and took about 30 seconds just to count to 20. The third test was the Walk and Turn. She stumbled, didn’t touch heel-to-toe correctly, and crooked her turns. She also lifted her arms for balance. The last was a quick alphabet recitation from “F” to “U,” which she completed without mistakes. After these tests, she was offered another chance to blow into a PBT. She refused again. Based on her smell of alcohol, her performance, and her own admission, Officer Finze decided to arrest her. She was handcuffed, placed in the patrol car, and taken to the police station. A search of her vehicle after her arrest found open alcohol containers inside. At the station, the officer read her the Warning to Motorist form. She agreed to provide breath samples. The test results showed a blood alcohol content of 0.148%, well above the legal limit of 0.08%. After processing her at the station, she was released to her husband. She faces several charges, including driving under the influence of alcohol, alcohol over the legal limit, transporting open containers, driving without insurance, and improper lane use. 17:04 That's a lie. 2 beers can put you over the legal limit.
