On July 19, 2024, Pullman Police Officer Padrta was purchasing an item from the self-checkout lane at Walmart. The police report claims that he noticed a man buying a fishing pole and a case of White Claw seltzers. Officer Padrta noticed that the man's movements were slow and deliberate, which he claims is consistent with someone under the influence of alcohol. Officer Padrta followed the man as he drove to Starbucks and then back to Walmart. Several minutes later, as the man was exiting Walmart for a second time, Officer Padrta approached him and struck up a conversation. That conversation started a DUI investigation, where the man was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests. This included a preliminary breath test (PBT), where the result was 0.116% BAC. The man was arrested for DUI and taken to the Pullman Police Station. He eventually submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.091% BAC. The man was issued a criminal citation for DUI and was released to the custody of his wife. All suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
