The New Orleans Police Department released video of a shooting incident where NOPD officer shot an armed robbery suspect in Treme. The shooting happened last week in the 400 block of North Dorgenois Street. The video shows an NOPD officer who was searching for a suspect near the Lafitte Greenway. The officer locates the man hiding in a bush. In the video, the officer can be heard asking the man to raise his hands and drop his weapons. The video shows gunfire exchanged between the officers and the man in the bush. The officer drops his flashlight, backs away from the suspect, and calls for backup. According to Superintendent Shaun Ferguson, the officer had no choice but to exchange gunfire due to not having anywhere to take cover. Ferguson said the department never wants to get into altercations with the public, but that this incident was unavoidable. The suspect was apprehended after being shot three times in the leg. The man received treatment for his injuries.
