REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures a traffic stop in rural Illinois where a passenger claims racial profiling before the encounter escalates to violence. This bodycam video documents the tense exchange that preceded a violent confrontation leaving two deputies injured. In this police bodycam footage, 58-year-old Terry Gardner begins questioning the legitimacy of the traffic stop involving driver Suzett Fassoth in Sheldon, Illinois. Gardner challenges why officers didn't simply provide a warning: "Okay, well, why she ain't just do that and tell you're going on, on your way?" He then introduces race as a factor: "Because there's a Black man in the car with you." This allegation, captured on the bodycam, represents his belief that his presence influenced the officers' decision-making. Gardner continues his argument by questioning the relevance of background checks during routine stops: "What your background got to do with her stopping the car because the light out? Or, or you didn't use the turn signal when she said..." This challenge to standard police procedures, recorded on police bodycam, demonstrates his growing agitation with the encounter. He then disputes the timing of the officer's observation: "when she was a goddamn... She turned around before we even got a half mile to the turn." This claim about the officer's positioning relative to the alleged traffic violation, documented on bodycam, suggests Gardner believes the stop was pretextual rather than based on legitimate traffic infractions. According to police reports, this March 13, 2025 incident would escalate dramatically after officers discovered suspected cocaine and drug paraphernalia under Gardner's seat. When deputies attempted to arrest him, Gardner actively resisted, fought with officers, and attempted to gain control of a deputy's taser. Both deputies sustained injuries during the violent altercation. Gardner was ultimately charged with possession of controlled substances, drug paraphernalia, two counts of aggravated battery to a peace officer, and attempting to disarm a peace officer, but was later released under Illinois' SAFE-T Act provisions. This police bodycam footage captures the initial tension and racial allegations that preceded one of the most violent traffic stop encounters in recent Iroquois County history.
