It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: Around 12:20 AM on January 19, 2025, Officer Forcenito and Sergeant Desiato from the Westfield Police Department were handling a different traffic stop near West North Avenue and Clark Street. During their patrol, they saw a 2017 Jeep drive onto the shoulder. The officers turned on their emergency lights and pulled the vehicle over on Parks Road. Sergeant Desiato told the driver to stop; she eventually did after he knocked on her hood. While speaking with Dawn, Sergeant Desiato smelled alcohol. Dawn said she was coming from the Riverside Inn, a bar in Cranford, and admitted to drinking earlier in the evening. Suspecting she was impaired, officers asked her to step out of the car and do field sobriety tests. Officers Swiderski and Sharfetz arrived to help with the tests. The first test was reciting the alphabet from “B” to “Y.” Dawn, a teacher, couldn’t complete this task. Next was the Walk and Turn test. She failed to touch her heel to toe and kept her arms at her sides. The third test was the One Leg Stand. Dawn couldn’t lift her foot properly and put it down before finishing. The last test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). Officer Swiderski saw her eyes jerk and not follow smoothly. Her nystagmus appeared at maximum deviation, and it started before 45 degrees. Because she was driving erratically, smelled of alcohol, and failed the sobriety tests, Officer Swiderski arrested Dawn for driving drunk. Her car was impounded for 12 hours under John’s Law. Dawn was taken back to the police station for more processing. At the station, Dawn was read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She refused to give a breath sample. After processing her, officers released her into the care of a sober adult. He signed a form warning her of potential legal consequences. Officer Swiderski gave Dawn citations for operating under the influence, refusing a chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, failing to yield to emergency vehicles, and improper lane use. 3:10 oh my god I'm a teacher This is terrible 7:25 awful! omg!
