On May 28, 2024, Rio Rancho Police Officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident. The reporting party advised the police dispatcher that 2 occupants from the at-fault vehicle had fled the scene on foot. Officers eventually apprehended a 20-year-old woman who admitted to being the driver of the vehicle that caused the accident. The male occupant of the vehicle was never caught, but a handgun was recovered from the area that he was last seen running from. While interviewing the woman, officers claimed to detect a strong odor of alcohol coming from her breath. She admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the evening. Because she had already demonstrated a willingness to flee, she was arrested and transported to the Rio Rancho police station, where she agreed to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She also agreed to submit to an evidential breath test. The result of her two breath samples were 0.14% BAC. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video.
