In 1996, 18-year-old Angie Dodge was killed in her Idaho Falls, Idaho apartment. A young man, Chris Tapp, confessed after about 20 hours of questioning (according to reporting), even though the DNA from the scene didn’t match him. A jury convicted him in 1998. Years later, Angie’s mother, Carol Dodge, watched the interrogation tapes, reread the police reports, and decided he was not the killer. She helped free him, and she helped find the man whose DNA did match. We kept it respectful and left out graphic detail. It is based on court coverage, statements from police and prosecutors, and news reporting. Where accounts differ, we say so. The investigators have said they did not feed Tapp details of the crime. Brian Dripps pleaded guilty to Angie’s murder and was sentenced to life in prison, with parole eligibility after 20 years. Chris Tapp died in October 2023. Daniel Rodimer has been charged in connection with his death and has pleaded not guilty. He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court. This case is still pending, so check current sources. 📚 SOURCES Innocence Project: Christopher Tapp. NBC News / Dateline.
