Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: On May 14, 2023 at approximately 4:06 a.m., the Vineland Police Department was notified of a traffic accident that had occurred on westbound E Sherman Avenue near the intersection with S East Boulevard. Officer Eduardo Santiago arrived on scene at approximately 4:14 p.m. and Officer Christopher Howard arrived shortly thereafter at approximately 4:17 p.m. When Officer Santiago arrived on scene, he found that a 2009 Mustang, driven by 24-year-old Sabrina, had struck a 2022 Subaru WRX from behind. None of the drivers or passengers reported any injuries. During the conversation with Sabrina, he noticed signs of impairment. Sabrina told the officer that she had been with Uncle Ricky that day. Officer Alexander Hunter also arrived on scene at approximately 4:27 p.m. to assist. Because the officers suspected impairment, Sabrina was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Officer Hunter began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During the HGN test, Officer Hunter observed the absence of smooth pursuit, pronounced and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation, and onset of nystagmus before 45 degrees. Vertical gaze nystagmus was not observed. The second exercise was the walk-and-turn test. During the walk-and-turn test, Sabrina did not touch her heel with each step and took an incorrect number of steps. The last exercise was the One Leg Stand Test, in which Sabrina did not lift her foot correctly and showed balance problems. Due to the car accident, impairment, and her inability to adequately perform field sobriety exercises, Sabrina was arrested for DUI. Sabrina admitted that she was in possession of a substance that could cause impairment and that it was in the vehicle. Sabrina was transported by Officer Hunter to the Vineland Police Department for further processing. Officer Santiago remained with the vehicle until it was towed to impound it for 12 hours pursuant to John’s Law. At the Vineland Police Department, the standard statement for motor vehicle drivers was read to her, and she agreed to provide breath samples for testing. Her Alcotest revealed a BAC of 0.20%, which was more than twice the legal limit of 0.08%. After the test was completed, Sabrina was released to her mother until the court date, who signed the potential liability form on Sabrina’s behalf. Sabrina was issued the following citations: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Reckless Driving, and No Liability Insurance for Motor Vehicle. Court documents show that Sabrina pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol on August 16, 2023. As a result of her guilty plea, she was required to spend 12 hours in a drunk driving center, use an ignition interlock device for 3 months, and pay a total of $640 in fines. The other 2 citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement.
