Officers from the Secaucus Police Department were dispatched to a retail store after loss prevention reported a female suspect concealing items in the store's cosmetics section. The suspect allegedly hid over $600 worth of merchandise before being confronted. During the investigation, officers discovered the individual had an active NCIC warrant out of another jurisdiction. The incident became even more complex when a vehicle previously linked to her past shoplifting offenses arrived at the scene while officers were processing the arrest. Following the arrest, the suspect appeared to be under the influence and requested medical attention, resulting in an EMS transport to a local hospital. Once she was medically cleared, she was taken to police headquarters, formally charged with shoplifting, and eventually turned over to the department holding her active warrant. These charges are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. An arrest is not a finding of guilt: that’s something for a court to decide.
