This was a scam that originated out of India where they called an elderly woman and claimed to be law enforcement and government employees. They told her that her name had come up in a money laundering investigation and convinced her to give them large amounts of cash. They told her that the treasury department would then issue her a cashiers check for the money she had given them. The scam involves them actually sending a money mule to the victims home to pickup cash multiple times. Thankfully the bank recognized that this woman was likely the victim of a scam and got the police involved. Unfortunately she had already lost tens of thousands of dollars that will never be recovered. They were able to arrest the money mule after setting him up to pickup another package filled with cash.
