On December 27, 2023, officers with the Key West Police Department responded to a call for a woman trespassing at a local bar. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the suspect, later identified as a 41-year-old female named Melissa. In the end, Melissa was charged with resisting an officer without violence, trespassing an occupied structure, and disorderly conduct. On March 7, 2024, she entered a plea deal and pled nolo contendere to all charges. She was sentenced to 180 days in jail for the resisting charge, 180 days in jail for the trespassing charge, and 60 days in jail for the disorderly conduct charge. This was a concurrent sentence, meaning she spent a total of 180 days at the Monroe County Jail and she received credit for 72 days served.
