On January 27, 2024, Tontitown Police Officer Clay observed a vehicle traveling 78 miles-per-hour (MPH) in a 50-mph zone. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 23-year-old woman. The police report indicates that Officer Clay could smell intoxicants coming from the vehicle. He also observed an open can of "Four Loko" on the floorboard between the driver's legs. The woman was asked to step out of the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. Despite 2 different officers explaining the walk-and-turn test, the woman was unable to comprehend how to perform the test. Officers then elected to go straight to a portable breath test (PBT). The result of the PBT was 0.196% BAC. The woman was arrested for DUI and was transported to the Tontitown police station. While at the police station, she submitted to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.20% BAC. She was charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding and was taken to the Washington County Jail to sober up.
