A detail officer working at the store was alerted to an active theft involving a woman later identified as 34-year-old Kelsey Baird of Navarre, Florida. When Baird noticed law enforcement inside the store, she immediately abandoned the merchandise and attempted to leave the building. Slidell Police Sgt. Jeff Kahrs tried to stop Baird, but she fled on foot into the parking lot. Waiting nearby was her associate, 43-year-old Eric Boudreaux of Biloxi, Mississippi, who began honking his horn to signal her location. Baird reached the vehicle, entered the passenger side, and Boudreaux drove away as Sgt. Kahrs continued the pursuit on foot. During the chase, a bystander witnessed the situation and realized Sgt. Kahrs was away from his patrol vehicle. The Good Samaritan offered him a ride, which he accepted. From the passenger seat, Sgt. Kahrs maintained visual contact with the suspects and provided live updates to dispatch and responding officers over his police radio. Within minutes, backup units located the fleeing vehicle and conducted a stop. Both Baird and Boudreaux were taken into custody without further incident, bringing the pursuit to a safe conclusion.
