A routine traffic stop for extreme speeding quickly escalates when officers detect the strong odor of alcohol emanating from the vehicle. Patrolman Michael Poon initiated the stop after observing a vehicle traveling 85 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. Upon approach, officers detected the distinct smell of an alcoholic beverage. The driver, Stacey Gilligan, admitted to consuming two glasses of wine and disclosed she was pregnant. After agreeing to standardized field sobriety exercises, she exhibited multiple indicators of impairment across all administered tests, including difficulty with balance and coordination. Based on these observations and her admissions, she was placed under arrest for driving under the influence.
