On November 24, 2022, New Mexico State University Police Officer Chavez was driving home in his marked police vehicle. A 33-year-old woman exiting Interstate 25 side-swiped Officer Chavez and continued driving off. Officer Chavez activated his emergency lights and the woman pulled over a short time later. The woman admitted to Officer Chavez that she had been drinking alcohol. Officer Chavez called his supervisor and then requested the Dona Ana Sheriff's Office to respond to the scene. Deputy Tyfair asked the woman to perform standardized field sobriety tests. She was subsequently arrested for DUI and transported to the Sheriff's station. She was given the opportunity to submit to an evidential breath test and the result was 0.16% BAC. After being taken to the hospital for medical clearance, she was transported to the Dona Ana Detention Center. Her charges and the outcome of the case are discussed at the end of the video.
