A routine civic duty turned volatile when a man refused to follow basic instructions, leading to a physical altercation caught on bodycam. This incident occurred at a township office's voting line when a man, refusing to wait his turn, attempted to push past election judges. The situation escalated rapidly as he began yelling profanities and then punched an election judge, knocking off their glasses. Other patrons intervened to restrain the individual until law enforcement arrived. Upon arrival, officers found the man still resisting, prompting the officer's direct statement, "You escalated dramatically, dude." The individual, identified as 24-year-old Daniel Schmidt, was subsequently charged with multiple counts, including aggravated battery and resisting arrest, and was held overnight pending a detention hearing. --- Transparency through the lens of the law.
