It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 1:45 in the morning on October 9, 2023, Officer Michael Rodriguez from Plainsboro Police was parked in front of the NJSP barracks on Route 1. He saw a 2014 Chevrolet sedan going 82 MPH in a 55 MPH zone while heading south. Rodriguez turned on his lights to pull the driver over. The driver pulled to a stop on Route 1 after some delay. He approached the Chevrolet and found the driver was Anastasiya Shelekhovska. While talking to her, Rodriguez smelled alcohol and saw signs of impairment. Anastasiya said she was on her way home after visiting a friend's house in Bloomfield. Soon after, Sergeant Timothy McMahon arrived to help. He also detected alcohol scent from the driver’s side. Anastasiya then admitted she had been drinking sangria earlier that night. Suspicious of her condition, officers asked her to step out for field sobriety tests. Sergeant McMahon started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. He saw four out of six signs of impairment. Next was the Walk and Turn test. During this, Anastasiya didn't touch heel-to-toe properly, turned incorrectly, and kept her arms at her sides. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She failed to raise her foot correctly and showed poor balance. Given her high speed, the alcohol smell, her own admission, and her poor test results, officers arrested Anastasiya for driving under the influence. After handcuffing her, they put her in a patrol car. Her vehicle was then impounded for 12 hours under John’s Law. Rodriguez took her to the South Brunswick Police for a breathalyzer test. At the station, Anastasiya was read the standard rights for drivers and agreed to give breath samples. Officer Raymond McCarthy ran the test. The result showed her blood alcohol level at 0.05%. This is above zero but below the legal limit of 0.08%. After testing, she was driven back to Plainsboro Police. They finished their paperwork and then released her to a family member. She was allowed to go after signing a warning form about her potential liabilities. She received three citations: Operating under the influence Reckless driving Speeding Court records show her DUI and speeding charges were dismissed on December 13, 2023.
