On April 30, 2023, a man called 911 to report that his girlfriend was allegedly driving drunk. Beachwood Police Lt. Owens spotted a vehicle matching the caller's description. The 21-year-old driver admitted to consuming one alcohol beverage several hours earlier. The Lieutenant did not seem convinced that the woman was drunk, but he decided to turn the situation into a training exercise for a new officer. Patrolman Shippy administered field sobriety tests to the woman, which included a portable breath test. The result was 0.154% BAC. Meanwhile, the boyfriend showed up and explained his side of the story to Patrolman Workman. The woman was eventually arrested for DUI. She submitted to an evidential breath test at the police station and the result as 0.127% BAC. Her charges and the outcome of her case are discussed at the end of the video. The boyfriend, who had a warrant from a neighboring township, was released.
