Witness the incredible moment astronomers discovered two planets colliding 11,000 light-years from Earth! This rare cosmic event, captured through old telescope data, offers a glimpse into the chaotic and violent nature of planetary collisions. Researchers from the University of Washington uncovered this phenomenon by analyzing unusual dips in a distant star's brightness, leading to the conclusion that two planets had crashed into each other. Learn how this discovery sheds light on the formation of Earth and its moon, and why such events are so rare to observe. Join us as we explore the science behind planetary collisions, the role of protoplanetary discs, and what this means for our understanding of the universe. Don't miss this fascinating dive into astrophysics and the mysteries of our cosmos!
