Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At 1:56 a.m. on October 26, 2024, Patrolman Mellaci saw a Jeep driving the wrong way on Maple Avenue. Its movements looked unusual, so he turned on his lights. The driver stopped on W. Front Street. The driver, Cara, said she had eaten dinner with a coworker. She was taking him home to Lincroft before driving back to her own home. While speaking with her, Patrolman Mellaci smelled alcohol on her breath. Cara had a license, but it was not valid. She also could not provide valid registration or proof of insurance. Believing Cara was impaired, the officer asked her to complete field sobriety tests. Sergeant Lovick administered the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, or HGN, test and observed all six signs of impairment. During the Walk and Turn test, Cara failed to walk heel-to-toe, counted incorrectly, and turned in the wrong direction. She also struggled with the One Leg Stand test and could not raise her foot properly. Patrolman Mellaci arrested Cara for driving under the influence. He cited her unusual driving, the smell of alcohol, and her poor test results. Under John’s Law, her vehicle was impounded for 12 hours. She was taken to the Red Bank Police Department for processing. At the station, Cara read the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators and agreed to provide a breath sample. The Alcotest recorded a BAC of 0.099%, above the legal limit of 0.08%. She received tickets for driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to keep right, having no registration, and having no insurance card.
