On Saturday, December 20, 2025, a license-plate reader alerted police in Newburgh Heights, Ohio that a stolen Kia had entered the village. An officer found it on Harvard Avenue just before 3pm. When police moved to stop it, the car took off. Dash camera video shows it reaching 71 mph on screen; police put the speeds between 60 and 80. It crossed the Denison Bridge, lost control and struck a house at Denison Avenue and West 20th Street. Nobody was hurt and the damage to the house was minor. Three occupants ran and were caught in a nearby backyard. The driver was 11 years old. The passengers were 12 and 8. Newburgh Heights Police Chief John Majoy said the group had learned how to steal cars by watching tutorials on YouTube. THE CHARGES Police sought fourth-degree felony charges of receiving stolen property and failure to comply against the 11-year-old driver, and receiving stolen property against the 12-year-old. A later public account said the 8-year-old was unlikely to be charged. Because juvenile detention facilities in the area generally hold only juveniles charged with first- or second-degree felonies, all three children were released to their guardians, and the case was forwarded for juvenile court review. NO FINAL DISPOSITION IN THIS CASE HAS BEEN PUBLICLY REPORTED. These are children in juvenile proceedings, none of them has been adjudicated, and nothing here should be read as a finding of guilt. Their faces are obscured throughout and they are not named. FOOTAGE Dash and body-worn camera video released by the Newburgh Heights Police Department, Cuyahoga County, Ohio.
