An argument in downtown Athens escalates into a shots-fired call, leading police to a suspect hiding inside a strip club dressing room. On December 18, 2022, at approximately 11:18 PM, officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to reports of a firearm being discharged into the air near the intersection of Clayton Street and North Jackson Street. A witness reported seeing two females engaged in a heated argument, during which one woman allegedly fired a handgun before walking toward College Avenue with another individual. Officers canvassed the area and quickly located a spent shell casing outside a nearby nightclub. While speaking with witnesses, officers were informed by a club employee that a woman matching the suspect’s description had retreated into the club’s dressing room. Officers made contact with the suspect inside and began their investigation. During questioning, the woman denied firing the weapon and attempted to shift responsibility to another individual. However, officers were advised that she was still armed. A search incident to arrest resulted in the recovery of a loaded 9mm Glock handgun concealed on her person, along with a marijuana edible. The original caller later positively identified her as the individual who discharged the firearm. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to jail. She was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless conduct, possession of marijuana, and discharging a firearm within close proximity to a roadway.
