* (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only) Humboldt Park, Chicago — On March 9, 2026, Illinois State Police investigated a shooting on the Eisenhower Expressway involving a white Mercedes that authorities later linked to 42-year-old Derek Jordan. Although no one was injured in that expressway shooting, Chicago Police began searching for the vehicle after receiving information connecting it to the case. Several hours later, officers located the Mercedes in the Humboldt Park neighborhood and attempted what they described as an investigatory stop near North Homan Avenue. According to police and body camera footage later released by COPA, Jordan refused to stop and drove away, triggering a short pursuit through the area. During the chase, authorities said the Mercedes struck a pedestrian and eventually became trapped in an alley after crashing near a CTA bus and other vehicles. Officers quickly surrounded the car and repeatedly ordered Jordan to get out. Instead, investigators say he continued trying to move the vehicle by ramming the bus and an unmarked police vehicle, as officers stood close to the car. Seconds later, an officer fired several shots through the passenger-side window, striking Jordan multiple times. Witnesses at the scene can be heard pleading with officers not to shoot as Jordan remained trapped between surrounding vehicles. Police later said a firearm was recovered from inside the Mercedes, though officials have not stated whether Jordan ever pointed or fired the weapon. Jordan was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
