On January 16, 2025, at approximately 12:45 p.m., the Collier County Sheriff’s Office Aviation Unit responded to a request from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office for mutual aid during a pursuit involving a suspect wanted for assault on a law enforcement officer. While responding, ground units reported a carjacking in the area, with the suspect fleeing in a Mazda CX-5. Ground units initially lost sight of the vehicle near Golden Gate Parkway and Goodlette-Frank Road. Aviation units from both agencies searched the area, and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office helicopter located the suspect vehicle near Pine Ridge Road and Airport Road. Air 1 arrived overhead and began recording as ground units resumed the pursuit. The pursuit traveled southbound on I-75 from approximately mile marker 107 to mile marker 100, with speeds exceeding 100 mph.
