The officer in the video performed a "taser bomb". A "taser bomb" is throwing a live taser in someone's lap. This video shows an officer’s blatant misconduct and misuse of a taser, performing what was referred to as a “taser bomb”. At time of the event, Corporal Jason Klingensmith had been employed by Springfield Police Department for 2 and a half years. He can be seen grabbing another officer’s taser and performing apparent pranks on his fellow officers. We’re going to play the video and then provide additional details. This event took place on October 12, 2019. Fatih Mutluturk, the officer who was injured, was a rookie with just four months on the job. As a result of Corporal Klingensmith’s reckless actions, he suffered a broken femur. He continued serving with the department before moving to a new department in January of 2024. In June of 2020, Fatih went on to file a lawsuit against the City of Springfield, Florida and Corporal Klingensmith. The initial complaint states that, at all relevant times, Corporal Klingensmith was Mr. Mutluturk’s superior in the chain of command. According to the complaint, Mr. Mutluturk required surgery and extensive rehabilitation treatment, relegating him to desk work. The complaint goes on to state that taser misuse, including the “taser bomb” is a common occurrence within the department. The civil lawsuit was closed in November of 2022 with a notice of voluntary dismissal without prejudice and we have been unable to locate any criminal charges associated with this event.
