Hopefully someone sees this video and it helps them not fall victim to these types of scams, I'm showing this to educate people on these types of scams and to see the details behind them. This is a sad situation, We have a hard working American that got scammed out of $283k by a group of Chinese scammers. The guy at the end of the video is believed to have entered the country illegally in 2019 and was already wanted in another state for a similar crime when this happened. This scam is going on all over the US where they call and pretend to be with the Sheriff's department. These Chinese guys were spoofing the calls ( using an app that makes a different number appear on the caller ID, in this case they used the Sheriff's real number ) and this gentleman checked the phone number and assumed it was actually the Sheriff's department. WARNING to ALL: These spoofing apps can make any number they want appear on your called ID. If you miss a call from them and call it back, it will call a real police of sheriff's office if that is the number they chose to use...That does NOT mean that someone actually called you from the number that appeared on your caller ID. He was charged with: IMPERSONATING AN OFFICER IDENITY THEFT THEFT (AGGRAVATED) FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE CORRUPT ACTIVITY RECEIVING STOLEN PROPERTY TELECOMMUNICATIONS FRAUD THEFT (AGGRAVATED)- from another state.
