On November 18, 2022, Sea Bright Patrolman Marelli stopped a female driver in a 1997 Ford F250 truck for allegedly failing to maintain her lane. Although he seemed reluctant, he eventually decided to ask the driver to perform field sobriety tests. He tried to help her every way possible, even reminding her to touch her heel to her toe. The 2 officers and their sergeant then huddle for a private conversation, but the sergeant failed to mute his body camera. Patrolman Marelli seemed reluctant to arrest the woman, but the sergeant expressed his opinion that she was intoxicated based on the results of the field sobriety exercises. She was eventually arrested and transported to the Sea Bright police station. The police report indicates the results of her evidentiary breath test were 0.17% BAC. She was charged with Operating Under the Influence of Liquor or Drugs, Reckless Driving, and Failing to Maintain Lane. On March 2, 2023, she was found guilty of the DUI charge and was ordered to pay a total of $640.00. In addition, her license was revoked for an undisclosed period of time and she was ordered to install an Interlock Device on her ignition for 3 months. The other charges were dismissed.
