It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On the evening of May 16, 2025, around 10:08 PM, Officer Nicholas Simons heard a dispatch call. The Elmhurst Police Department was responding to a report. A green Bronco was driving erratically on Saint Charles Road and West Avenue. The vehicle swerved significantly. It was traveling 15 MPH below the speed limit on Spring Road. Then it headed west on Saint Charles Road. It crossed Route 83 and entered Villa Park. Officer Simons spotted the Bronco driving west. It was near Saint Charles Road and Ardmore Avenue. He saw the driver still swerving. He decided to stop the car. The driver pulled over near Moon Massage on East Saint Charles Road. The driver was Cathleen Bendicsen. She told the officer she was going to a friend's house. As they spoke, he smelled alcohol. He saw other signs she might be impaired. Sergeant Bryan Hruby and Officer Michael Raymond arrived to help. Sergeant Hruby knew Cathleen. She used to work at Willowbrook High School. He talked with her for about 20 minutes. He tried to get her to do field sobriety tests. Cathleen admitted she had three drinks that night. She mentioned Officer Kordell Kitching. He was someone she had dated before. Sergeant Hruby told her he could not interfere. Officer Simons was handling the DUI investigation. Cathleen refused to get out of her car. She would not perform the tests. Based on her driving, the smell of alcohol, signs of impairment, her admission to drinking, and her refusal of tests, Officer Simons arrested Cathleen. He arrested her for drunk driving. He put her in handcuffs. He placed her in the patrol car. He took her to the Villa Park Police Department. At the station, she was read the Warning to Motorist. She refused to give breath samples. After processing, she was released to a friend. Her court date is pending. She faces charges for driving under the influence of alcohol. She also received two tickets for improper lane usage. Records show Cathleen works as a counselor.
