Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At 4:10 a.m. on August 8, 2024, Officer Mateus Serrano was patrolling Witherspoon Street when he spotted a white Honda CR-V near Valley Road. One of its front tires was badly damaged. Serrano stopped the car, which pulled over beside a bus stop, and spoke with the driver, Megan. She said she did not know what had happened to the tire. As they talked, Serrano smelled alcohol and noticed other signs that Megan might be impaired. He asked her to recite the alphabet, then count backward from 88 to 68. She completed both tasks. After asking her to step out, he began field sobriety tests. Officer Lee checked Megan's eyes. They did not track smoothly, and they jerked at the far edge of her vision, starting before 45 degrees. During the Walk and Turn test, Megan missed the heel-to-toe steps and initially forgot to count aloud. She also struggled with the One Leg Stand, wobbling and losing her balance. The damaged tire, strong smell of alcohol, and Megan's admission that she had been drinking raised further concern. After the field tests, police arrested her for driving while intoxicated. Patrolwoman Lynn searched Megan and the car as part of the arrest. Officers found no open alcohol. Megan went to the station for processing while Lynn stayed with the Honda. It was towed under John's Law, which required a 12-hour impound. At the station, Princeton police read Megan her rights. She agreed to take a breath test, and Officer Lee operated the machine. The result showed a BAC of 0.11%, above New Jersey's legal limit of 0.08%. Megan's husband arrived, signed a form, and took her home. She is now awaiting her court date. Serrano issued tickets for DUI, reckless and careless driving, damaged tires, and an unsafe vehicle. He also cited her for failing to update her address with the DMV.
